INSECTA | EMMALEE RATHSAM’S NEWEST SERIES OF SURREALIST PORTRAITURE
Join me on June 12, 2026 from 6-9PM for the opening of Placemaking, a Zhou B Art Center Resident Artist Exhibition. I am excited to unveil the first print of my newest series called, Insecta. The first print of fifteen will be available to view and purchase.
In this piece, Insecta I, I explore identity through self-portraiture intertwined with insects I collected from my family’s farmhouse. Among them were wasps I discovered tucked within the old structure, preserved in windowsills quietly occupying the space over time until they were laid to rest indefinitely. Finding them felt significant; they became symbols of memory and preservtion.
